On February 21, 2022, the newest preserve in St. Lucie county was opened. It is the Petravice Family Preserve. That day they were giving guided hikes and guided kayak tours of the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. I had a cookie and decided to come back the next day when there would be less people around.

There is a nice parking area, which leads to the trailhead and also the dock where you can launch kayaks. I was told the county also has guided kayak tours about twice a month for around $15/person to cover equipment costs, etc.

The Orange Trail is where you start hiking and will go through the woods for a short distance. This takes you to a nice covered pavillion with two grills surrounded by trees and the water. There are bathrooms at the beginning of this trail but it never seems to be unlocked. The attendant said the door locks from the inside and I guess people forget to unlock the door so when they leave the next person can't get in. I think they will have to change these in the near future!

You'll soon come to a wooden bridge over a stream.

I then went onto the Blue Trail that is just lush and green! There are a lot of variety of trees here since this property was once owned by a doctor who ran a plant nursery here. You can still see numbers of different trees along the trail.

Soon I get on the White Trail that leads over to the North Fork of the St. Lucie River and a footbridge to Captain Hammond's Hammock Preserve which is 54 acres and is a nice loop trail!

When you get to the footbridge, if you go around it on the ground, you will find a nice bench that you can sit on and watch the river.

Petravice Family Preserve is really nice and close to town. It is located at 5445 Palmetto Ave, Fort Pierce, FL 34982. Also, when you leave here, check out the White City Park just to the west off Midway Road on the west side of the St. Lucie River.

When I was on the wooden footbridge, there was an airboat, probably giving a tour that I filmed. Take a look:
