Randa, Tasch and Zermatt Switzerland have more than four hundred km of marked walking and hiking trails. Up to three thousand meters above sea level, the mountain railways make it possible to effortlessly reach high altitudes. Recommended to those who like to walk up to higher altitudes, are the regions in Randa and Tasch, with breathtaking views of the peaks of the Mischabel group and the Weisshorn.

There are trails close to the villages for those who are no longer so good on their feet and you can also follow in the footsteps of Albert Schweizer, Eduard Whymper and Emile Zola to Trift. To learn more about the region, the themed walking trails invite you. Following the Quality Goals for Hiking Trails in Switzerland, the location has introduced a network of hiking trails with uniform signposts.
Nature reserves of national and international importance, contain ninety percent of the region. There are five valleys around Zermatt with more than seventy trails, including the celebrated Tour Monte Rosa and the Tour Matterhorn, hikers who prefer alpine routes can make use of the ridge trails. The Europaweg on a ridge trail along the Nikolaital valley is a part of the Tour Monte Rosa. Fifteen mountain cabins invite you to step inside.
I included here the "Haute Route" which can take you from Chamonix, France to Zermatt, Switzerland or the other way if that's your preference. It is for experienced backpackers! You don't have to do this trail if you don't want to, with all the trails around Zermatt. Have fun in Zermatt and I hope to see you on the trail!
