Some day hikes can be scary without the right Osprey Backpack. A picnic with shorter hikes might be better served by a backpack with glasses, utensils, plates, etc. All you really need is a good daypack, if you don't want to carry all that stuff and you backpack longer distances.
A very popular daypack I recommend is the...
For long day hikes, a fantastic backpack. Great compartment for your hydration bladder. You can fill up while the backpack is fully loaded, if you use a top filling bladder like a Platypus. Also, I like to easily store trekking poles. For one day on the trails, there is plenty of room. This is the daypack to get, if hiking is your intended use.
This backpack is ideal. You can use it to grocery shop, commute to work, mountain bike or hike. It is roomy, but not too large. It keeps you comfortable because it doesn't move around on your back.
For warm days, you can fit two 3L bladders in the hydro sleeve. Pockets keep all your power bars, Gatorade, knife, camera, etc, accessible and organized. It is as durable as any Osprey backpack and feels great on your back fully loaded, because it's a really lightweight backpack.
With the Osprey Talon 22 Backpack, you can hike canyons in Utah. For an ambitious day outside, this light weight pack holds everything. Stuff your bike helmet in the front pocket and a jacket and clothes in the top main compartment. Energy food stashes nicely in your harness pockets, and your water bladder goes in the hydration compartment.
As well as a padded back panel with air channels so you stay cool, the Talon 22 Backpack has a hip belt and mesh harness.
In the Osprey Talon 22 Backpack, comfortably carry all the stuff you need for a great day outside!
