If you are looking for the Best Youth Hostel in Europe, I'll tell you about the finest one I have found. The lowest price and the best quality!
Opened it's doors in December 2002, Krone and The Euro Youth Hotel in Bad Gastein. Since the 1880's, the Hotel Krone has catered to visitors to the ski resort and beautiful Spa Town of Bad Gastein. The current owners, in 2002, took over the three star hotel with the fantastic location and have since worked tirelessly to create one of the most luxurious hostels in Europe!
Bad Gastein, Austria
Even those who arrive expecting the three star hotel experience tend to leave very positively surprised indeed.
The Youth Hostel in Europe, in Winter, provides one of the most affordable bases in the whole of the Alps to enjoy some of the best slopes in Austria with great packages including ski/board hire and high quality low budget accommodation.
The Gastein Valley and the hostel, in Summer, are the ideal medicine to days spent hopping around stressful hot big cities. The staff at the Euro Youth are ever keen to help you get the most out of the fantastic surrounding nature, be it soaking it all off in the adjacent thermal baths or archery, swimming, paragliding, canyoning, rafting, biking or hiking.
The Gastein Valley
Just across the road from the closest gondolas/lifts, the Euro Youth Hostel is right at the center of one of the biggest and best ski resorts in the Austrian Alps. The setting couldn't be better, for those that come in the summer too. Mountain biking trails start from just outside the hostel's front doors and the Euro Youth Hostel is surrounded by great hiking and various beautiful peaks.
Linking Western/East/South and North Europe, Bad Gastein is on a main transport artery so is easy to get to by rail or road. The trip by road or rail is more than worth the effort for the scenery alone, and is just over an hour South of Salzburg.
With a lot of history, the youth hostel is a grandiose building. A laid back international atmosphere and actually a three star hotel but with dorm rooms too. During the summer months, watch out for great deals in the private rooms, all with, most importantly, balcony with mountain views, flat screen tv, and water/shower closet. The Augustiner beer tastes like it and is imported from Munich. Imported from Slovakia, the chef makes some of the best Schnitzels you'll find anywhere. Also, he manages to do it at a price that even a hungry backpacker can afford.
Head for the rooftop terrace and watch the sun set over the majestic Alps with a cold Augustiner in your hand and the promise of Schnitzel in your belly and new friends at your side, and there is free WiFi throughout the building but it is recommended to switch off the laptop.
